Bhoomipujan of the 10 FT. tall Statue of Sir Visvesvaraya at VNIT Campus.
A Bhoomipoojan was performed on Friday, 4th October 2019, at VNIT, for the erection of 10 ft tall bronze statue of Bharatratna, Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The statue is being erected to mark the beginning of the Diamond Jubilee year of VNIT.
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, previously known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE) shall be entering into its 60th year in 2020.
The premier institute of Nagpur, VNIT, has witnessed a challenging, fruitful and a nostalgic journey during its transformation from VRCE to VNIT. With dedicated efforts and continual improvement the institute today has earned the status of “Institute of National Importance”.
To mark the milestone during its journey, the yearlong celebration of Diamond Jubilee will witness various academic, social, enterprenurial and outreach events. The institute shall be holding number of number of workshops, lectures from distinguished alumni, Industry- Academia- Conclave, events for school children etc.
The scale, scope and the range of the event is magnanimous in nature, and the worldwide alumni of the institute have extended a strong and solid support to the institute for the grand success of this event.
The proposed bronze statue is expected to cost approximately 35 lakh, and the alumni of 1982 batch are the lead sponsor for the structure. The works is expected to be completed by December 2019.
Alumni of 1983 and 1984 batches have taken up the responsibility of beautification and landscaping from main gate to the administrative building, costing about 45 lakh. A football ground(Estimated ost 30 lakh) shall be sponsored by 1992 batch. It is worth mentioning here that the alumni of 1983 batch and 1984 batch have already sponsored two electric buses for plying within the campus for the convenience of students and the visiting parents.
A team comprising of Shri. Vishram Jamdar, Chairman, BoG, VNIT, Prof. P. M. Padole, Director VNIT and a team of VNIT Alumni Association ( Representatives from 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 18986 etc batches) shall be monitoring the activities.
It is a matter of pride that the entire work shall be executed by VNITians. The architectural design is by Shri Bharat Yamsanwar (1968), civil work by Shri Shriniwas Warnekar (1981) and structural design by Shri Suneel Voditel (1983).

Padole, Director VNIT, Prof. Dilip Peshwe, Dean (F/W), VNIT, Shri Shashikant Chaudhary, Chairman VNITAA, Shri Uday Kamat, Treasurer, VNITAA, Deans, Associate Deans, Professors, staff of VNIT and number of alumni from various batches.
