Dr. P.M. Padole, Director, Dr. D. R. Peshwe, Dean (FW) with other officials and VNIT Team with the Trophy
Faculties and staff members of Visvesvaraya National institute of Technology (VNIT) participated in the 3rd All India InterNIT sports tournament for the faculties and staff, held at MNIT, Jaipur during 18-20 December, 2019. The sports that were conducted during the event were Badminton, Table Tennis and Chess. The event got an overwhelming response with 18 NITs participating with over 250 participants in all. In all VNIT won 10 gold, five silver and 1 bronze medals and emerged as the overall winner. VNIT team received the Trophy for best performance. Dr. Pramod. M. Padole, Director, VNIT, Dr. D. R. Peshwe Dean (Faculty Welfare), Dr. V. B. Borghate, Dean (R & D) Dr. S. B. Thombre, Dean (Acd) congratulated the team members. The Faculties of Sports Activity Centre worked hard for selection and preparation of the VNIT Team.
16 Faculty and staff members represented VNIT. Dr S.R. Tambey was captain for TT Team. Dr. V.S. Adane was Captain of Chess team and Dr. Shaym Kodape was captain of Badminton team.
In Table tennis, there were two categories for men, 1. Above 50 years 2. Below 50 years. Dr. Aniruddha Ghare won gold and Dr. S.R. Tambey won silver medal in Men singles above 50. Dr Ghare and Dr. Tambey also won Gold in the men’s double above 50.
In Table Tennis (TT) women singles, Dr. Anupama Kumar won Gold and Dr. Sarika Bahadure won Bronze medal. In TT women’s doubles Dr. Anupama Kumar and Dr. Sarika Bahadure won Gold. In Mixed Doubles, Dr. Ashwin Dhoble and Dr. Sarika Bahadure won Sliver. Total 6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze were won by the TT team of VNIT.
Chess was a team event. VNIT won gold medal in chess amongst 12 teams. Four gold medals were won by the team members.
In Badminton there were two categories, 1. Above 50 years 2. Below 50 years for men and women. The events conducted were men & women singles, men & women doubles and mixed doubles. Ms Mugadha Lamsoge won Silver medal in women’s singles below 50 years and Dr. Sushma Giripunge won Silver medal in women’s singles above 50 years. Total 2 silver medals were won by the team.
