Success Stories of CAD-CAM Centre Mechanical Engineering Department VNIT
The ongoing project titled “ Biomedical engineering and technology incubation centre” nicknamed as “ BETiC” is successfully being executed under the supervision of Principal investigator Prof. A.M.Kuthe.
Three devices under BETiC project received the grant for start-up.
1.The project proposal for the device Non-invasive Glaucoma Detector received Rs. 50 lakhs under BIRAC BIG Grant. Ms. Neha Lande will be the project coordinator and the company will be formed by her which will be incubated at Venture Centre Pune. Dr. Ravishekhar Dhakate renowned eye specialist & Additional medical Director Govt. of Maharashtra & Dr. Mahesh Mawle of KITS Ramtek will be the mentor in this project and Prof. A.M.Kuthe will be the technical advisor for this project
2.The project proposal for the device “Adjustable Surgical Cutting Guide for Accurate Mandible Tumor Resection “received Rs. 50 lakhs under BIRAC BIG Grant. Dr. Sandeep Dahake will be the project coordinator and the company will be formed by him which will be incubated at Venture Centre Pune. Dr. Mrs. Baliga & Dr. Bhola from DMIMS Wardha will be the mentor in this project and Prof. A.M.Kuthe will be the technical advisor.
Biotechnology Ignition Grant ( BIG) awards are given by BIRAC ( Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) New Delhi, after a multilevel selection from over one thousand applications every year. The grant is like an equity free angel fund for med-tech start up companies. Such awards enabled developing several innovative medical devices for screening, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation and taking them to market through startup companies.
3.The device “ Rapid prototyping Assisted Fabrication of Metallic Scaffold for Load Bearing Application “ received Rs. 10 lakhs as DST-Lockheed Martin-TATA trusts IIGP 2.0 University challenge 2019 award. Around 800+ application received from 300+ colleges for this award. Only 40 were selected for presentation at IIT Bombay and finally 10 are selected for the award. The award is given to Mr. Prashant Ray , Dr. Pranav Sapkal , BETiC researchers and Prof. A.M.Kuthe on 17th July 2019 at New-Delhi . The device is opening new frontier in tissue engineering. At CAD-CAM centre tissue engineering lab is already established which is appreciated by renowned personalities from India in medical device innovation namely Dr. B. Ravi of IIT Bombay , Dr. Bikramjit Basu of IISC Bangalore and Dr. Shantanu Dhara & Dr. Sanjay Gupta of IIT Kharagpur and international experts namely Dr. Gaffar Gialani of City university New-York, Dr. Raj Das of RMIT Melbourne Australia and Dr. Akhilesh Gaharwar of A & M Texas USA
VNIT CAD-CAM centre under the leadership of Prof. A.M.Kuthe and able guidance of Head of mechanical engineering department Dr. V.R. Kalamkar and VNIT Director Prof. P.M. Padole look forward to these “ Made in India” products reaching the market early and making a difference in terms of affordable healthcare as well as high value job opportunities.
