Dr. Kumar’s research focuses on adding value to food processing and biomass waste from fruits and vegetables using a sustainable biorefinery approach and circular bioeconomy principles. She holds four patents and has implemented a pilot plant at Merino Industries Ltd in Hapur (UP).Her patents include an eco-friendly, economical method for extracting polyphenolic antioxidants from the peels of pomegranates, apples, and potatoes, and developing a process for their selective separation using customized molecularly imprinted polymers from ultra-dilute solutions, making the biorefinery process economically viable and sustainable for healthcare applications. She has also developed edible coatings to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables for which two patent has been filed and is also working on biodegradable packaging applications. Her interests also encompass the development of methods and materials for the simultaneous analysis of emerging contaminants and their remediation through photocatalysis and selective adsorption for environmental remediation.Dr. Kumar has over 60 SCI publications, 10 book chapters, and four patents. Her H-index is 23, with an average impact factor of 5.2398. Recently, her idea submitted to the Tomato Grand Challenge by the Ministry of Education, AICTE and Ministry of Consumer affairs was selected for funding and was amonst the top 10 projects out of 1376 projects submitted. Recently she was awarded Best Marshall Researcher Award for her research on Chitin and Chitosan at the International Conference on Chitin and Chitosan and the 12th Symposium of the Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society, held at Amrita University. The award included a certificate and prize money. This award is the result of research her research group have been doing on Chitosan for over 12 years with high impact research articles and Patents. She has catered many academic and administrative responsobilities. |
