| Prof. Sachin Bakre is presently working as a Professor at the Department of Applied Mechanics, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, India. |
| Prof. Bakre has completed his under-graduate studies in Civil Engineering from the Government College of Engineering, Pune (COEP). |
| Prof. Bakre started his research in the areas of Finite Element Methods, Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering as a Masters Student at Visvesvaraya Natinal Insititute of Technology, Nagpur, India. Later on, his research interests have been into classically developing the closed-form expressions for the optimum parameters of Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) and Multiple Tuned Mass Dampers (MTMDs). Since 2003, he has been into Finite Element modeling of pressurized piping systems in nuclear power plants and industrial units equipped with various passive energy dissipation devices. Later on, he has developed a general-purpose computer program (PiSA\NL) for dynamic analysis of piping systems with nonlinear energy dissipating devices while working as a Research Associate on a Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) sponsored project. His doctoral work at the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), India, was collaborated with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai wherein he performed shake table studies on piping systems and its components for nuclear power industry. More recently, he has been investigating the experimental and analytical response of scaled building models subjected to harmonic loading (shake table tests and forced vibrations tests). |
| Currently, his research interest includes Seismic Response Control, Finite Element Analysis, Dynamic Response Analysis, Seismic Hazard Analysis and Response of Structures to Blast Induced Vibrations. |
| He has teaching experience of more than 18 years and has been teaching the courses on Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures, Earthquake Engineering and Special Structures to Masters and Doctoral students and Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Structural Analysis and Steel Structures to BTech (Civil Engineering) and BArch Students. |
| He has supervised 3 PhD students and more than 45 MTech students. He has published more than 50 research publications in National and International peer reviewed Journals and Conferences. |
| His research work along with his doctoral student has been awarded with the prestigious Jai Krishna Award for Best Research Paper in the year 2017. |
| Prof. Bakre has been engaged in various administrative duties at VNIT Nagpur such as Head of the Applied Mechanics Department, Associate Dean (Civil Works), Associate Dean (Stores Purchase), Chairman (MTech Admissions), etc. |
| He has handled various research and consultancy projects sponsored by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Public Works Department (PWD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), MAHADISCOM, Military Engineering Services (MES), State Irrigation Department, Indian Railways, etc. |
