Department of Mechanical Engineering VNIT Nagpur. It is a place where students can learn about the workings of the various manufacturing and production processes. Students gain competence in handling practical work in an engineering environment through the Workshop Practice courses. The workshop is the central component of learning about various materials, tools, and manufacturing techniques that are used in various manufacturing activities and functions. Workshops are crucial when interested parties wish to learn about practical information. Practice in the workshop equips people with the fundamental skills needed to produce a range of technical goods. It describes the design, operation, use, and application of various working tools, pieces of equipment, and machinery as well as how to make a product from scratch. The eight shops that make up the VNIT Mechanical Workshops serve a variety of trades, including FITTING SHOP, CARPENTRY SHOP, WELDING SHOP, FOUNDRY SHOP, MACHINE SHOP, ASSEMBLY SHOP, SHEET METAL SHOP, PLUMBING SHOP. It also includes Service Facility like .<\/span><span lang=\"EN-IN\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-IN\">SEMINAR HALL, DYNAMIC LOAD TEST, COMPUTERISED NUMERIC CONTROL MACHINE, etc. Technical Assistant and Technical Attendant support each shop in the workshop. Workshop resources are available for UG first- and second-year students in accordance with the curriculum. The resources are heavily utilised by UG, PG, and Ph.D. research scholars. Tech.)<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Assessment:<\/strong>\u00a0TA 100%<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Course Objective:<\/strong>\u00a0The objectives of the course are<\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make the students aware of various skills involved in basic engineering processes for manufacturing and assembly.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make students aware of various basic engineering processes like cutting, filing and joining and to have hands-on experience for the same.<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong>\u00a0At the end of the course students will be able to<\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acquire skills in basic engineering practice.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify the hand tools and instruments.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gain measuring skills.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obtain practical skills in the various trades.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enhance psychomotor skills and attitude<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Course Content:<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Existing trades:<\/strong><\/p><ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-roman;\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fitting: Use and setting of fitting tools for chipping, cutting, filing, marking, center punching, drilling, tapping. Term work to include one job involving following operations: Filing to size, drilling and tapping.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carpentry: Use and setting of hand tools like hacksaws, Jack planes, chisels and gauges for construction of various joints, wood turning and modern wood turning methods. Term work to include one carpentry job involving a joint and report on demonstration of a job involving wood turning.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welding: Use and setting of tools and equipments for edge preparation for welding jobs and Arc welding for Jobs like, Lap welding of two plates, butt welding of plates.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Machining: At least one metal turning job is to be demonstrated. CNC Machines: One job on CNC Lathe and CNC Milling machine to be demonstrated.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foundry: At least one demonstration of mold making.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sheet Metal Working:\u00a0 Use and setting of tools like Shears, Stakes, Hammers, Snips, Punches, Riveting gun etc and equipment for sheet metal working. At least one job\/demonstration of making an article from surface development drawings.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plumbing: Use and setting of hand tools like hacksaws, Vices, V blocks, Taps, tap wrenches, Pipe wrenches, Pipe threading dies, pipe bending dies, Pipe cutters, callipers\u00a0 etc for plumbing works. At least one job\/ demonstration involving threading and joining of pipes.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Assembly:\u00a0 Using and setting various workshop tools like spanners, wrenches, screw drivers, torque wrenches, hammers, pliers etc. to assemble and disassemble an engineering system (e.g. bicycle, etc).
