VNIT to extend helping hand to MAHAN trust Melghat, Dr Ashish Satav, Founder and President MAHAN, Melghat at VNIT Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur had organized a Guest lecture by Dr.Ashish Satav, President, Mahatma Gandhi Tribal Hospital, MAHAN Trust, Melghat on 27 thNovember, at the Senate Hall, VNIT, Nagpur. The event commenced with the felicitationfunction of the guest by Honorable Dr. Pramod Padole, Director, VNIT, Nagpur and Dr. DilipPeshwe, Professor, VNIT, Nagpur. Lecture was attended by the faculty members and thestudents of various departments of the institute.The formal introduction of Dr. Ashish Satav was delivered by Dr. Dilip Peshwe. Dr. Satav is thepresident of MAHAN Trust (Meditation, AIDS, Health, Addiction, Nutrition) and has acommunity-based healthcare in the Melghat region for the past 11 years. He has helped tribalsin the region to access medical facilities, they had been deprived of since years. Dr. Satav hasreduced the child mortality under the age of 5 and prevalence of severe malnutrition by morethan half, and age specific mortality (16-60 years) by one sixth in 17 villages of Melghat throughhome-based child and adult care, with the help of village health workers using randomizedcontrol trial method. Dr. Satav has also presented papers at national and international level. Hehas bagged several awards for his social service and medical research.Soon after the introduction, Dr. Satav delivered the lecture on working of MAHAN Trust andvarious bio-medical engineering problems related to the area, followed by one to oneinteraction with the faculty members. Dr. Pramod Padole has accepted to sign MoU with theMAHAN Trust. The faculty members took up the challenges as opportunities to solve variousbio-medical engineering problems and promised to work together to help Dr. Satav and histeam. After the program Dr Satav was also felicitated by VNIT Alumni Association members Mr.Uday Kamat and Mr. Joginder Singh.
