VNIT to extend helping hand to MAHAN trust Melghat, Dr Ashish Satav, Founder and President MAHAN, Melghat at VNIT


Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur had organized a Guest lecture by Dr.
Ashish Satav, President, Mahatma Gandhi Tribal Hospital, MAHAN Trust, Melghat on 27 th
November, at the Senate Hall, VNIT, Nagpur. The event commenced with the felicitation
function of the guest by Honorable Dr. Pramod Padole, Director, VNIT, Nagpur and Dr. Dilip
Peshwe, Professor, VNIT, Nagpur. Lecture was attended by the faculty members and the
students of various departments of the institute.
The formal introduction of Dr. Ashish Satav was delivered by Dr. Dilip Peshwe. Dr. Satav is the
president of MAHAN Trust (Meditation, AIDS, Health, Addiction, Nutrition) and has a
community-based healthcare in the Melghat region for the past 11 years. He has helped tribals
in the region to access medical facilities, they had been deprived of since years. Dr. Satav has
reduced the child mortality under the age of 5 and prevalence of severe malnutrition by more
than half, and age specific mortality (16-60 years) by one sixth in 17 villages of Melghat through
home-based child and adult care, with the help of village health workers using randomized
control trial method. Dr. Satav has also presented papers at national and international level. He
has bagged several awards for his social service and medical research.
Soon after the introduction, Dr. Satav delivered the lecture on working of MAHAN Trust and
various bio-medical engineering problems related to the area, followed by one to one
interaction with the faculty members. Dr. Pramod Padole has accepted to sign MoU with the
MAHAN Trust. The faculty members took up the challenges as opportunities to solve various
bio-medical engineering problems and promised to work together to help Dr. Satav and his
team. After the program Dr Satav was also felicitated by VNIT Alumni Association members Mr.
Uday Kamat and Mr. Joginder Singh.
