The Training & Placement (T&P) Section of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur serves as a vital interface between the Institute and the corporate, research, academic, and public sectors. The Section is committed to enhancing the employability of students by providing comprehensive training, career guidance, internship opportunities, and placement assistance.

The Section works closely with leading organizations across diverse sectors to create opportunities for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students. In addition to facilitating campus recruitment, it focuses on developing students’ technical competencies, professional skills, communication abilities, and overall career readiness.

Training Programmes

To prepare students for the evolving demands of industry and research organizations, VNIT has established a structured and comprehensive Career Readiness Programme integrated across academic semesters. The programme is designed to equip students with the technical, analytical, interpersonal, and professional skills required for successful careers.

Health Check-up and Physical Efficiency Test

As part of the Career Readiness Program, VNIT conducts Health Check-ups and Physical Efficiency Tests (PET) for final-year students enrolled for the placement process.

The activities are conducted in coordination with the Institute Health Centre and Sports Section to assess students’ general health and physical fitness as part of their placement readiness.

Industry Mentorship Programme (IMP)

The Industry Mentorship Programme (IMP) is an initiative of the Training & Placement Section, VNIT Nagpur, aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry by connecting students with experienced professionals from diverse sectors. The programme provides students with guidance on career planning, industry expectations, skill development, higher studies, entrepreneurship, internships, and placement preparation through structured mentor–mentee interactions.

Students are grouped based on their career interests and mapped to mentors from industry, many of whom are distinguished members of the VNIT alumni network. The programme currently covers multiple domains, including Core Engineering, IT, Data Analytics, FinTech, Consultancy, Higher Studies, Entrepreneurship, Defence, R&D, and Public Sector Undertakings.

In its first cycle, the programme engaged over 90 mentors and approximately 450 students. Beyond regular mentoring sessions, mentors contributed through technical talks, mock interviews, internship opportunities, industry visits, project guidance, and career counseling. The positive response from both mentors and students has encouraged the expansion of the programme, further strengthening industry-academia collaboration and enhancing the career readiness of VNIT students.

Internship Opportunities

VNIT strongly encourages students to undertake internships as an integral component of their professional development. Internships provide students with practical exposure to industrial processes, research methodologies, organizational culture, and real-world problem-solving environments.

The internship programme enables students to:

• Apply classroom knowledge to practical situations.
• Gain industry-specific experience and technical exposure.
• Develop professional competencies and workplace ethics.
• Build networks with industry professionals and researchers.
• Explore potential career pathways before graduation.

Organizations often utilize internship programmes as a mechanism for identifying and evaluating talented students for future employment. Based on the performance of interns, many companies extend Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), thereby creating a direct pathway from internship to full-time employment.

The Training & Placement Section actively supports students in securing internships and industrial training opportunities with:

• Defence Establishments
• National Laboratories
• Academic and Research Institutions
• Private Industries and Start-ups

The Section facilitates the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs), recommendation letters, verification documents, and other institutional support required by host organizations.

Internship Status: During the Academic Year 2025–26, the Training & Placement Section issued 691 NOCs/LORs, resulting in 593 confirmed paid and unpaid internships across various sectors. For the Academic Year 2026–27, the internship process is currently underway.

Campus Placements

VNIT Nagpur conducts an extensive campus recruitment programme each year, attracting leading national and multinational organizations from diverse sectors including engineering, information technology, consulting, analytics, finance, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, research, and public enterprises.

The Training & Placement Section coordinates all recruitment-related activities, including company outreach, pre-placement talks, online assessments, interviews, offer management, and student-employer engagement. Continuous interaction with recruiters helps align student competencies with industry requirements and strengthens long-term institutional partnerships.

For the Placement Season 2025–26, more than 678 students from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes secured employment opportunities through campus recruitment drives. These offers were extended by over 170 reputed organizations representing a wide spectrum of industries.

The placement outcomes reflect the strong academic foundation, technical competence, and professional preparedness of VNIT students. While a significant proportion of students pursue careers in core engineering sectors aligned with their disciplines, many also secure opportunities in information technology, consulting, analytics, finance, education, research, and entrepreneurial ventures, demonstrating the versatility and industry relevance of the Institute’s academic programmes.
