Participation in high level of competition enhances the sense of achievements, feeling of belongingness, national pride and patriotism. Sports being practical way of education facilitate beneficial recreation, improve productivity, foster social harmony inculcating sense of discipline and dedication in general life. Sports give a strong message of peace, friendship and understanding among the people of participants. Today, sports are prime need in a civilized society, as it helps to promote national integration, emotional integrity and professional intellect among the participants.

All India Inter NIT Sports Calendar meetings:

            The institute took initiative to bring all the NITs at a common platform to discuss various core issues related with hosting an All India Inter NIT tournament successfully and smoothly.

• The first meeting for all the NITs of India was conducted during 26^th and 27^th of November 2012. More than 30 persons including Dean (SW) and faculties of Physical Education from 17 NITs took active part in the meeting and discussed on various core issues intensively before finalizing the events for All India Inter NIT Tournament 2012-13.
• The second time meting was conducted during 9^th & 10^th of June 2017.Physical Education Personnel of all the NITs of India was organized to discuss the action plan for the celebration of International day of Yoga 2017 & All India Inter NIT Sports Calendar 2017-18,. Total 34 delegates from 21 NITs from all over the country participated in this mega event.

All India Inter NIT Tournaments:

            The institute conducted All India Inter NIT Tournaments from 2009-2010 to 2011-2012. Now the responsibility of conducting the All India Inter NIT Tournament is again entrusted to the institute. Around 26 NITs are expected to participate in Badminton (M &W), Table Tennis (M & W) and Yoga (M & W); which will be conducted during 29^th September to 1^st October 2018.

Exposure to students in local tournaments

                The Institute also understands the importance of local tournaments and exposes the students in various local tournaments whenever it is possible as per the academic calendar. Local Intercollegiate Invitational Cricket Tournament- Krik Mania:

This Invitational Cricket tournament provides a platform to the upcoming cricketers of local colleges. Since last 22 years through this particular event students of the institute are learning various skills of organizing a sporting event under the guidance of physical education & sports section.

Specialized Coaching facility

Coaching facilities are also made available to the students selected by conducting the selection trials of various games. The specialized coaches are appointed to train the students going to participate in various in Inter-NIT Tournaments.

Institute Gathering

                The Institute gathering is conducted every year under the supervision of sports section. Students and staff of the institute participate with overwhelming response in various inter-departmental sports activities conducted under institute gathering.

Vihang: PG Sports

            This is another interdepartmental sports activity which is conducted by the P. G. students under the supervision of sports section.

Outsourcing of infrastructure to Government institutions

The available infrastructure is outsourced on nominal rental charges to government institutions for conducting their departmental tournaments
