Homi Jehangir Bhabha Hostel
Welcome to Homi Jehangir Bhabha Hostel, a residence that embodies the spirit of one of India’s most brilliant scientific minds and visionary leaders. The hostel is named in honor of Dr. Homi J. Bhabha (30 October 1909 – 24 January 1966), widely revered as the Father of the Indian Nuclear Programme. But Bhabha was more than a physicist; he was a pioneering institution-builder, a passionate advocate for fundamental research, and an architect of modern India’s scientific destiny.
Homi Bhabha famously stated, “For the progress of science in India, we must develop our own laboratories and research institutions.” He lived this philosophy by founding two cornerstones of Indian science:
• The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)
• The Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (now the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre or BARC)
Through these institutions, he not only launched India’s nuclear and space programmes but also created a culture where scientific excellence could thrive for national progress.
The hostel has 67 double-seater rooms, accommodating a total of 134 students (excluding the Supervisor’s office). The layout includes 21 rooms on the ground floor and 23 rooms on both the first and second floors. Each floor features its own separate washrooms, bathrooms, and a water cooler with a UV purifier. An IoT-based 10kg front load washing machine, located on the ground floor, is available for students to operate via a mobile app.
