Welcome to Anandi Gopal Joshi hostel. The hostel is named in honor of Dr. Anandi Gopal Joshi (31 March 1865-February 26, 1887). Anandi Gopal Joshi was the first Indian woman to become a doctor of Western medicine, graduating from the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1886. Born Yamuna Joshi, she was married at age nine and later inspired to pursue medicine after her son died due to the lack of medical care. Despite strong social opposition, her progressive husband supported her studies, and she went on to have a celebrated but brief career before her death at age 21.
The hostel has 520 rooms, accommodating a total of 600 plus girl students (excluding the Supervisor’s office and warden’s office). The layout includes 52 rooms on each floor (2nd floor to 11th floor). We have around 50 guest rooms total spread out on the ground and first floors. Each floor features its own separate washrooms, bathrooms, and a water cooler with a UV purifier. IoT-based 10kg front load washing machines are available for students to operate via a mobile app. One washing machine is present on each of the following floors: Ground, 2,3,5,7,9,11 (Total 7 washing machines).
