VNIT Nagpur Electronics and Communication Engineering Department

COURSE OF STUDY

Research Program

  1.  Ph.D. program

Ph. D. programs :

A Ph. D. program is postgraduate research oriented programs. The scholar works in an area of his/her interest under the supervision of a faculty member(s) of the department. The scholar has to obtain a minimum number of credits by taking courses. The highlight of the program is the independent research work taken by scholar, leading to a dissertation at the end of the program.

Areas of Research :

Communication Engg, Signal processing, Computer Vision, Embedded Systems, RF Communication, Sensor Networks, Soft Computing

M.Tech. Program

The M.Tech (Communication System Engineering) is accredited by NBA for full Six Years (2019-2025).

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers following postgraduate program:

  • M.Tech. (Communication System Engineering),
  • Intake: 27 (22 + 5 sponsored)
  • Admission through CCMT based on Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores. (There are no admissions for non-GATE candidates.)

The M. Tech. (CMN) is a two-year course oriented graduate program in which a student has to take a set of core, elective and project courses. The course work is spread across the first two semesters with an option of taking electives in the third semester. This is followed by a project in the third and fourth semester in which the student can take up a project of his or her interest, supervised by a faculty member of the department. The department also provides an opportunity for M.Tech. (CMN) students to undergo internships at industries of repute during third and fourth semesters of their degree.

 M.Tech. Scheme

The curriculum of the M.Tech. (CMN) program is evolved after thorough consultations with the industry professionals and experts from the institutions of technical excellence like IITs/NITs etc. The present scheme offers a perfect blend of fundamental knowledge in the advanced areas of communication engineering and ability to apply this knowledge to design and develop the solutions for practical issues.

We periodically revise the scheme based on the feedback from various stakeholders like, students, faculty members, academic and industry experts and our recruiters.

M.Tech.(CMN)::The VNIT Edge

Following are some salient features of our M.Tech. (CMN) program:

  • Industry Oriented Learning and Opportunities :
Our M.Tech. (CMN) program has the flexibility for students to undergo the internships at industries of repute during third and fourth semesters of their degree, to work on the currently relevant industrial problems, and to get the academic credit for the same.  The list of students who have completed their projects as industry interns can be found here.

Currently, 15 students of 2020 batch have been selected by different industries/R&D laboratories to pursue internships.

  • The Research Exposure
The students get the substantial exposure to the research in the areas relevant to communication system engineering. The students work with their faculty supervisor on some advanced research problem as their project. Many of our students have come out with excellent research publications in journals of international repute like IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE System Journals, IET Communications etc.

Department provides generous support to the students for attending conference and for filing patents. This support is additional to their monthly stipend.

  • Excellent Placement Record
Our graduates are working in the prestigious companies like ISRO, Qualcomm, Intel, Mathworks, Prasar Bharti, Oracle, Sasken Technoloies etc. The placement details of our graduates are available here.

The Department offers the following academic program:

Course-work oriented program

  1.  4-year B. Tech. program(Accreditated for five year NBA till July 2020)

Course Oriented Program

B. Tech. program

The B. Tech. program is a four-year course oriented undergraduate program. The course work is spread across all the semesters. The courses include a set of core courses offered by the department, a set of departmental electives and some free electives. Apart from this, a student must complete four courses in OC/HM category. Besides, a student must also complete a project in the final year towards the fulfillment of the degree requirements.
