🤝 Strengthening Academia–Industry Collaboration for Sustainable Mining and Innovation
A significant milestone in advancing the mining sector has been achieved as Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur and the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) have entered into a collaboration to promote research, technology development, innovation, and skill enhancement in mining and allied areas.
From VNIT, Dr. Prem Lal Patel, Director, VNIT; Dr. Yashwant Katpatal, Dean (R&C), and Dr. Manmohan Das Goel, Associate Dean (Consultancy and Industry Interaction) were present.
From IBM, the following officials were present: Shri Pankaj Kulshrestha, Controller General, Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur, Dr. Y.G. Kale, Chief Controller of Mines, Shri V. J. Krishna Babu, Chief Controller of Mines (MES), Shri Parag Madhukarrao Tadlimbekar, Superintending Mining Geologist & Technical Secretary, and Shri Gaurav Sharma.
The collaboration is intended to establish a strong platform for advanced research, technical studies, and innovative solutions in key areas including Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, Mineral Economics, Mining Geology, Digital Mineral Administration, Sustainable Mining Practices, Ore Beneficiation, Critical Minerals, Offshore Mining, and emerging technologies for the mining sector.
🔹 Key Objectives of the MoU:
- Collaborative research and development initiatives addressing contemporary challenges in mining
- Technical consultancy, analytical studies, and technology-driven solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability
- Advanced studies in ore beneficiation, mineral processing, mine planning, and geological assessment
- Development and application of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) tools for digital transformation in mining
- Capacity building through training programmes, workshops, seminars, conferences, and knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Opportunities for student internships, academic engagement, and industry exposure
- Research initiatives focused on sustainable mining, environmental protection, offshore mining, and critical mineral resources
This partnership will combine academic expertise and industry experience to support innovation-led solutions and contribute to a more sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced mining ecosystem.
