MoU Signed between VNIT and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)22nd July 2025 | VNIT, Nagpur

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Nagpur Office, on 22nd July 2025 at 11:00 AM, marking a significant step towards promoting standardization and conformity assessment awareness among students and faculty.
The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials from both institutions. From BIS, Shri Hemant B. Ade, Scientist ‘E’ / Director & Head, Shri Raunak Sukhadeve, Scientist ‘D’ / Joint Director, and Ms. Isha Khurana, Standard Promotion Officer, graced the occasion. VNIT was represented by Director Prof. Prem Lal Patel, Dean (Research & Consultancy) Prof. Y. B. Katpatal, Associate Dean (CII) Dr. M. D. Goel, Prof. Rashmi Uddenwadiker, In-Charge Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, along with other Deans and Associate Deans of the Institute.
Prof. Y. B. Katpatal initiated the event with opening remarks, highlighting the importance of collaboration between academia and national standard bodies. Director Prof. Prem Lal Patel, in his address, emphasized the critical role of standardization and conformity assessment in the present industrial and academic landscape, and how such partnerships can foster a culture of quality and compliance.
Shri Hemant B. Ade spoke about various BIS schemes through which mutual benefits can be harnessed, especially in capacity building and research-based initiatives.
The dignitaries from BIS were felicitated by the Director and Dean (R&C) as a mark of appreciation. A brief institute presentation outlining the academic and research landscape of VNIT was delivered by Dr. M. D. Goel.
The MoU outlines a framework for collaborative activities such as awareness programs, technical lectures, workshops, and internship opportunities. Dr. M. S. Kotambkar and Dr. Nitin Kumar Lautre from the Department of Mechanical Engineering are the institutional coordinators for the implementation of MoU-related activities.
This MoU is expected to open new avenues for students and faculty members to engage with the national standardization ecosystem, thus contributing to the vision of “Standards Make Cities Smarter and Nations Stronger.”
